Announcing The Perfect Performer For The Chuck Berry Tribute Show And For Our Mexico Let Yourself Go Fun Fest…Charlie “You Can Call me Chuck” Jacobson

Not only is Charlie a fan favorite in Mexico, so bringing him back for The Big Reboot is a “no-brainer”, but he is also one of the few we could think of that could give us a great Chuck Berry Tribute. From the famous Chuck Berry duck walk to Chuck Berry’s big hits, we are very confident that Charlie will give you a great show. Mr. Versatility, a multi-instrumentalist, is sought out as a session musician for his lead guitar play and is equally at home with blues, rock, and rockabilly. Always an energetic stage performance.

When we had to replace Mike Clark from Calgary, who had to bow out for personal reasons, we found another Alberta Canada performer (based out of Red Deer) who will fit right in. The glove fits! Happy to tell you today, Charlie is getting his Chuck Berry Tribute and all his other material, polished up for Mexico in January.

Your not sure about Chuck Berry’s music, the man that every up-and-coming blues rock and rock musician from the early 60s onward idolized. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones to start. He is in our opinion the true father of modern rock n roll. John Lennon said, “Another name for rock ‘n roll, you could call it Chuck Berry” Here’s a great article from Rolling Stone magazine to get you into Chuck Berry’s music.

Live from Mexico

Bio:
Charlie Jacobson is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Red Deer, Alberta. He has backed up and been backed up by some of the Canadian blues and blues-rock giants: Harpdog Brown, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, Russell Jackson, David Vest and Donald Ray Johnson, to name a few.  All of this foundation-building paid off. Charlie’s guitar appears to be part of his body when he’s on stage, like a third arm. It is not uncommon to see him weaving through crowds and jumping from drum kit to table, while singing his heart out, and never losing a note on the guitar.  His first full-length Album was released was in 2015 titled “Alberta Flood” Two more since.

Charlie always brings the great music, a willing attitude for anything jams and collaborations, and equally importantly, always brings the fun and a great spirit. Now with a great new tribute show and music, in homage, and interpreting Chuck Berry’s music that he will present in Mexico for the first time. Join Charlie and the rest of our great performers and say “Si, Go Mexico, Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Go Playa/Beach” January 21-29, 2023, when its cold everywhere else. Ticket info is here at this site at the Festival Tickets page.

The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Brand All Began In Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico In January 2018 And We Remember Those Exciting Days Today Before We Move Forward.

Covid Hit Our Fests & Concerts For The Cause Momentum Hard, And Honestly Friends We’re Just Learning To Walk Again. Rebuilding Our Fan Base Is Most Important. Starting Over For 2023. Very Pleased With The Shows and Music We Will Be Presenting, Howerver.

We’re announcing our 2023 lineup and schedule, version 2.0 on Tuesday, November 8. Our official launch day. So we think it’s fitting we take a short look back today to who and what we were and what we wanted to be when we grew up (our vision) when it all began.

It All Started on January 6-8, 2018 In Ixtapa, Mexico With Our One Day Blues & Rock Night. See The Short Highlights Video That Was Assembled Then Below. David Gogo was here then. Why we wanted him back and why it’s fitting he is coming back for The Big Reboot 2023

Going Back For The Future

Then we followed with three other “One Amazing Night” Shows. Chicago-born bluesman Chris Sanchez and his blues-rock band came back to Ixtapa-Zihua. They were with us at the early January show. Fitting that they’re coming back too for 2023 with their special 3 Kings Tribute Show(B.B., Freddie, Albert) The thrill of having them with us is not gone, we say with smiles.

We also had a great night of music in tribute to AC-DC, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin by the Tangerine Band of Mexico with Enrique and Lorena of Mexico City, leading all the tributes, and they have returned many times since, . Then we concluded the winter 2018 season with the event that everyone told us was “Beyond One Amazing Night” A special tribute to The Doors by The Crystal Ship Band of Mexico City. Everyone was very disappointed when the closing notes of L.A. Woman on the encore, signaled the end of the evening.

Enjoy The Fan Videos and Some Photos Of 2018. (Some photos wordmarked as they should be, to Abigail Lovett, our hard-working photographer that year)

Chris Ghidoni is just the kind of up-and-coming lead guitar-slinging blues-rock vocalist with a big heart we were looking for to pair up with David Gogo headlining our Mexico Fest

The real deal folks. You may not have heard her name but you will remember her when you see her live here in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Mexico, January 21-29, 2023.

When well-known saxman and vocalist Mike Clark of Calgary, had to bow out of coming to Mexico in 2023, we knew we had a big hole to fill…tell you more on November 8…the Chuck Berry Tribute…but he gave us one great thing…a strong recommendation, based on him seeing her live recently, that we bring Chris Ghidoni here to fill the role we mentioned above. And so we are.

We know you’ll love friendly and unassuming Chris, from Brandon, Manitoba Canada with the big guitar chops and strong blues rock voice when we get her live with us in Mexico.

Here’s a couple of her videos and then her bio below. Join Chris and say “Gotta Go” To Mexico!

Chris Ghidoni is a blues rock guitar player and singer from Brandon, Manitoba. Other influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Albert King, and Colin James.

Chris has been playing blues and rock guitar for years around Western Manitoba and Winnipeg and also in Vancouver. She has opened and shared the stage with Winnipeg’s Big Dave McLean and many other well-known top performers. On September 4th, 2022, Chris released her first original EP called How We Say Goodbye. It’s available to stream or purchase on Bandcamp.com, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music.

The Music And The Fun Make The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Events Great…The Causes Give Us…And You, Added Motivation To Do This, And Go All In

The Music And The Fun Make The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Events Great…The Causes Give Us…And You, Added Motivation To Do This, And Go All In

We’ve been out of the public spotlight in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo for two years. Blame Covid. Nothing else. Ended 2020 on a high note and all momentum we had as a local community-based, business organization with a purpose beyond profits was lost. So it’s the big reboot for 2023 and new people who weren’t with us before, have started asking who we are and why we are different.

Our purpose is to help build the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and region community we live in and started our business enterprise in. Festivals and high-level music and other events are well acknowledged excellent ways of bringing in new tourism dollars. Bringing back previous visitors to the area as well. International and national visitors.

The Big Reboot Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Fest & Shows 2023

And we wanted to support causes dear to our hearts and others in the community. The model we chose for our core Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Events business was a “social enterprise”. A model dear to the heart of the founder Bob Rempel,

After a long business career in western Canada, he discovered the power of the social enterprise model when he served as Executive Director of a non-profit organization called SSCOPE for six years back in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Before coming to Mexico as a tourist. And ending up Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Now with permanent resident status in Mexico.

The social enterprise entity operates as a business, using all normal effective business principles, except all profits are turned back into the organization or donated to the community and causes, instead of going to shareholders or the owner(s). So that was the model adopted when we first launched Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion events in January 2018 with a great blues and rock event. And then more concerts and festivals in 2019 and 2020.

Then Covid came along halting all live events in 2021 & 2022, except one live event in Mexico City, on December 11, 2021, called “The Spirit of Christmas Rock ‘n Blues Explosion” supporting animal rescue work in Mexico City. Excellent videos on our Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Youtube page.

We’ve written before about our community involvement and our mission to support the community we live and operate in before.

Now we’re here in September 2022 planning for the big reboot in January 2023 and I want to tell you more about the Causes we want to support and help as much as possible in 2023.

In 2023 We Continue To Support Street Animal Rescue in Mexico, now with our own small shelter too, and our Animales Angeles Fund MX. This Year Have Taken On The Challenge Of Beginning To Support As Much As Possible What We Call Street Kids Rescue-Helping Kids In Need, One By One, With Food, Shelter, Education, School Clothing, and Such. To Help Them Realize Their Full Potential. The “Rescue” theme works well for our mission we believe.

We Have Requested That The City of Zihuatanejo Give Us the Authorization To Use The Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre For Shows on January 21, 22 and 27. In Return If Granted, We Have Also Committed To Raise Funds For A New “School Of Rock” Based Out Of Zihuatanejo’s Cultural Centre, and Working In The Region With Good Teachers And Equipment To Create Talented Future Rockers. So That Means Clinics At Every Fest And Event Too With Some Of Our World Class Talent.

Plus, Where We See An Opportunity If Possible We Want To Help Ukrainian War Refugees In Mexico. We’re Warred Out, To Turn A Phrase. Let’s Help If We Can Is Our Thinking.

These causes are dear to our hearts of us as organizers and our small dedicated volunteer group. Plus we believe these are very worthy causes that our fans and performers can easily get behind. Mexicans, Americans, and Canadians come together to enjoy the music of our lives in a fun atmosphere at destination-worthy events, while trying to support the local community and worthy causes. See you in January, or earllier at some of our lead-up events in the community!

David Gogo Says I Want To Go Mexico Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo And Create Some Blues-Rock Explosions At The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Fest January 26-29, 2023…Announcing Our Headliner

He was with us in 2018 in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo when we first launched our Blues & Rock Events as part of an all-star band. “Not enough of David performing”, we heard a lot. So now he returns to Headline the 2023 Fest and gets us relaunched. We’re thrilled to tell you this, thrilled to have him back. David Gogo Montreal Jazz Festival 2016, Bell Canada Stage

David Gogo’s current bio info (Spotify):

David Gogo is a six-time Juno Award Nominee and a three-time recipient of ‘Guitarist of The Year” at the Maple Blues Awards. Gogo’s accreditations further extend to accolades such as ‘Musician of The Year’ at the West Coast Music Awards, ‘Blues Recording of the Year’ at the Western Canadian Music Awards; and The Great Canadian Blues award. Now, the veteran Canadian bluesman David Gogo has released his sixteenth full-length album ‘Silver Cup’. This acoustic affair was recorded at Gogo’s home with longtime friend Steve Marriner, who produced and performed on the album. Silver Cup arose during the COVID pandemic and subsequent shutdown of live music as Gogo found time to reflect on his life, heritage, and career.

The album’s thematic ties to Gogo’s lineage are evident within songs such as Silver Cup’s title track, which took inspiration from an antique cup made in the 1800s and passed down to him by his 95-year-old grandmother. The titular silver cup’s history spans back to Gogo’s Great, Great, Great Uncle, James McKay. McKay, who is now renowned as a Métis Builder of Canada, began as a trapper and guide before eventually becoming involved in the negotiations of Treaties 1 through 5. Further, McKay held several positions with the newly formed Province of Manitoba, including dealings with Louis Riel. As this family heirloom led Gogo to better connect and engage with his storied family history, its symbolic nature acts as the perfect focal point for Silver Cup.

Great in jams and collaborations which we love and so do our fans, and quiet and friendly and down-to-earth as a person, we couldn’t have asked for a better Headliner to step up and say “Yes, I want to Go Mexico-Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo And Create Some Great Blues & Rock Explosions” Are you ready to join David? Hey it’s cold everywhere else at that time, isn’t it? January 26-29, 2023. Fun in the Sun, The Music of Our Lives For Great Local Causes…Street Animals, Street Kids, More. One Of The Changes We Have Made For The Big Reboot In 2023 Is That We Want To Be A Community-Based Festival in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. So That Means We Want To Be In Various Locations Throughout The Two Communities.

We told you about our plans to use the Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre, near the beach, for our Shows on January 21 and January 22. Subject to finalizing discussions with the City of Zihuatanejo. Yesterday we told you about our plans to have a big open-air concert for all at the Zihuatanejo Basketball Court in Centro on Thursday, January 26. It’s a Mexico Talent Showcase from us, along with the Introduction and Short Performances from many of the Fest Performers that are already in Ixtapa-Zihua at that time.

Today we tell you we are also in advanced discussions with the Zihuatanejo Government to have the opening night of the Go Mexico-Go Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival at the Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre in Centro Zihua. Friday, January 27. We have made a commitment to the Zihuatanejo City Government that we will provide seed funding in 2023 for a “School of Rock” for young Mexico students to learn rock, blues and jazz skills, at the Cultural Centre. And more in the future, for every year we are using the Facility.

Then for Saturday night January 28, we go back to Villas Paraiso Hotel and Ricardo’s Restaurant, in Ixtapa, longtime friends and supporters of the Fest. We were here for our “Best Fest Ever”, as everyone said to us, in January 2020. And then Covid, the Corona Virus shut down our momentum. That brings us to now 2023, the Big Reboot!

Two of the last songs performed at our 2020 Fest before the Covid Pandemic shut us down for 2 years. As it did everyone else of course, so just sayin’.

The All Star Band Ends The Night January 18.
Chris and Geoff Dahl (The Blues Brothers Tribute) are Excellent Musicians in their own right. With Evelyn Rubio, Gil Gaidola and Charlie Jacobson. From January 2020 Just Before The Corona Virus Shut All Live Events Down.

And for Sunday afternoon jams and more on January 29, we are planning to take you right to the Ocean. A beachside end of the Fest, starting mid-afternoon, with a couple of short sets and then some can’t miss, always unique, one-of-a-kind, All Performer Jams to close out the 2023 Festival and “Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week. Details on Sunday, January 29 coming very soon. Think Ocean, Waves, and The Sea. But we’ve given you the venue’s conceptual plan.

The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week Goes To The Community in 2023.
