Now The Backstory And More Information Below

Nobody heard the big Explosions on November 15 in the Tequila Rock n Blues Explosions Fest office.  Not an explosion of Rock ‘n Blues music.  An explosion of bad news with potentially very damaging results to the 2024 Festival. We were reeling, not rocking.

Two unrelated headliner performers, our biggest ever, on the same day if you can believe that coincidence, asked for a deferral to our 2025 or 2026 Festivals for medical reasons. We want to make that work.  Two others have subsequently just gone AWOL, gone missing on us, astounding yes, but true, and that means they are not coming for 2025 or 2026 either.

An Aside About How This Could Happen To A Growing Fest With A Loyal Fan Base.  We are an Old School style operation here. Maybe to a fault. Great Music for Worthy Causes By Volunteers. Handshakes And Verbal Agreements As We Look For the Right Combination Of Performers With Big Hearts Who Want Some Downtime and Fun Time In Mexico In Late January.  “A big learning experience” is what Fest Director Bob Rempel called it.  And we love even more the pérformers and fans and partners that Have our Back too.

It took a few days to process all this and decide our strategy. No tequila-mezcal was necessary for a fan-friendly approach that helped the Fest stay on target to keep achieving its “Better and Better 2024-2026 strategy and fundraising goals. Go back to basics, go back to first order priorities was the advice we received.  But, no denying it, a shot or two of tequila or mezcal did not hurt in helping us get back to glass-half-full thinking.

Now here we are today, a few weeks later, feeling better and more confident than ever.

We are pleased to announce today:

-In light of the regrettable cancellations by Performers we have promoted for months to our fans, any ticket holder for 2024 who wishes to defer their ticket to either 2025 or 2026 will be able to do so, by informing us of the same by Written Communication before January 19 midday.  No penalties or fees. This will allow us to put 2024 fans in those seats.

-In the meantime, on January 19 at Madana Restaurant, the Rock and Blues back room we all affectionately call “Small Room, Big Fun” has Sold Out. A second show for Zihuatanejo with all or most of the first weekend Fest performers has been scheduled for Monday, January 22. Same time, same location.

The second weekend January 25, 26, 27 events have grown considerably stronger with performers

-Cliff Stevens of Montreal, Canada with 5 blues rock albums to his credit will join us January 25-27.  In Cliff’s case not only has he got 5 albums of original music, he is also known as the “Canadian Slowhand”.  He is considered one of the foremost Eric Clapton music interpreters worldwide.  More on Cliff:  https://www.thesoundcafe.com/post/a-conversation-with-montreal-bluesman-cliff-stevens

-Brandon Isaak, of North Cowichan, BC, Canada, with three blues albums to his credit and just recently 4 Maple Blues Award Nominations for 2023 will also join us January 25-27.  When you see Brandon you can affectionately say “Hey Bluesman”.  He love the title and his recorded music and live performances show it. In November performed at a “Sold Out”  show at the famous Blue Frog Studios in Vancouver, Canada.  website social

More on Brandon:  https://edifyedmonton.com/culture/performing-arts/brandon-isaak-saint-of-swing-boss-of-blues/

The first weekend will now allow us to feature our first International performer (non-USA-Canada-Mexico) to a much great degree. Bex Marshall of London, England.

She has a great pedigree.  Selected as the voice of “Janis Joplin”  by Big Brother and the Holding Company’s original lead guitarist Sam Andrew who originally brought Janis into Big Brother in San Francisco, from Texas, for their European Tour in 2014, her voice and guitar skills will amaze everyone.  We have scheduled a special Tribute Homage to Tina Turner

Bex with Big Brother original lead guitarist and band leader Sam Andrew, 2014

Recently we announced Charlie Jacobson as our Musical Director ensuring all performers    He will now assume a front-line performance role as a Headliner as well.  Charlie is a fan favourite from previous years, an excellent guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, and has a great rock and blues mix of originals and covers.  We may even get a little Bob Seger tribute from Charlie.  He’s working on something he told us.

We have moved the Beatles’s “1965 at Shea Stadium” and the Highway to Hell AC-DC sets, 30 minutes each at different times in the evening, to the first weekend.  They will be presented by Norbert Aguilar and his Chile Vudu band of Morelia, Mexico whose brief walk-on performance in 2023 told us we had to bring him back.  Now back with his power trio band!

Unofficially we’re calling it Margarita Sunday.  Our Margaritaville.  Beach Rock takes over January 21 at the Beach, (Playa Linda’s Coco Ixtapa Beach Klub, 1:00 pm start all afternoon) will be headlined and opened by a special one time only performance of the very well known Hamilton, Ontario Canada, 3 For The Show.  Top 40 Classic Rock music.  3 Guys Who Love Their Classic Rock.  They also perform in Canada’s biggest CCR/John Fogerty Tribute Band called Mystic Highway Band.  Plus Fest Performers on stage all afternoon until about 6 pm.  Steps away from the Ocean with a big dance floor just for the occasion.

Trebor Villa of Morelia will assume a more prominent front-line role, with his early Bob Dylan set, his Jimi Hendrix and other classic rock music. as will Marianna Gajma, Mexico’s next shining vocal star. Her stage presence and engaging personality will win you over quickly we’re sure.  Both will be with us throughout the entire Festival January 19-27, 2024

Mariana Gajma

Please Check The Latest Revised Schedules On Our Website or Facebook Page For All The Changes.

And that’s all Folks, the January Events are next.

Announcing More Classic Rock Acoustic Style, In Addition To Our Previous Announcement Of Performers

Today We Are Very Pleased To Tell You That We’ve Got Acoustic Classic Rock Soft Rock, Yacht Rock, Feel Good Rock covered with the group, “3 For The Show” from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.   Larry Melo, on keyboards, cajon and vocals and Paul Ferreira on bass, join Gil Gaidola on guitar and vocals for a completely different take on Rockin’ Your Night Away.

Easy listening rock that you will sing along to.  Songs we all love, originally by performers like The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Ricky Nelson, Elvis, Del Shannon, Jim Croce, Michael Pagliaro and many more.

Check out Gil Gaidola solo on Youtube with the Bee Gees “Gotta Get A Message To You”.

The three are also part of the very popular Creedence Clearwater Revival group/John Fogerty solo in tribute Band, Mystic Highway, which plays throughout Canada and the USA.

Gil, Larry and Paul join us on January 20 and they’ll be a bonus part of our 20th and 21st shows with walkons, in addition to all our First Weekend Headliners, as we build them up to their full Headline status on our special Big Fun Big Fundraising Dinner & Concert Monday, January 22.

Presenting a 1.5 hour approximately concert style set that features all the great music from Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty, not just the standard few hits that cover bands perform. Plus of course, the very special one-time-only collaborations by Joanna Connor and Chris Duarte, and with other Fest Performers.

The Lineup:

The strongest Top Through Bottom lineup ever from one through nine, baseball coaches like to talk about, and we feel the same way about our 2024 Performers’ Lineup. No weak spots. Until 2025 that is. ? Performers from Canada, USA, Mexico and the U.K.

World-class performers, big stage experience all over the world, with many albums produced.  In fact we have five performers with new albums just in 2023:  Mariana Gajma, Mexico City, Steffie Beltt, Mexico City, Joanna Connor, USA, Chris Duarte, USA and Bex Marshall, UK.

The Big Fun Big Fundraising Day & Night January 22, will be a special day for all those who love Animals and want them to have a good life in their senior years too, just like we want for our own parents, and who want to see kids with talent from the local region learn to play rock and blues and jazz and to perform on stage like the pros so they can be future stars on our stages and any stage, and want a community center that can host future Film Festivals and future big or small Events such as our Fest.

Plus we’ll make sure that at least The I’m A Soulman Brothers will work their way into your area in the front too and entertain you. They are wanderers always with their wireless microphones. And you get to move into the main Room as soon as seats open up.

-And our genial Sr. Gone Loco, Ricard Gomez Jr at Villas Paraiso is offering a great incentive for everyone to Go Ixtapa! Two 200 peso specials. The Kristel Rodriguez and Friends Project Is Looking Better And Better All The Time For Our Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Fest 2023 During Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week January 19-29, 2023

Yesterday we told you about the Kristel Rodriguez and Friends Project for our January 20-29, 2023 Ixtapa Rocks ‘n Blues Rocks Week.

We know Kristel, she knows Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and our Audience, and we highly respect her musicianship and so do other musicians. We mentioned David Gogo and Charlie Jacobson of Canada in that breath. So we had no fear about her bringing musical Friends from Morelia!

Friends like Oralia Band possibly. She mentioned them to us yesterday as the talking about how to best put this together continues. What do you think folks? Wow, this video was very impressive. And we’re not that easily impressed.

We’ll keep talking to Kristel and let you know soon what the final lineup of Friends might look like. But count on it to be rockin’ and lots of fun. An international lineup. And music and performers and show concepts you can’t just go and hear any day you want. Always! That’s who we are!

The Early Elvis & Memphis Era Show: You’ll hear music by Elvis Presley, the King, of course

Charlie Jacobson, November 2022, Edmonton, Alberta Canada

As well you hear some music from those who influenced him: People like Fat Domino and Little Richard. Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner, and wait for it…B.B. King. Perfect for a Blues Fest like ours. Both Elvis and B.B. King grew up in the Tupelo, Mississippi region. More on Elvis’s influences here. Plus performers like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley who both influenced Elvis and were influenced by him.

You’ll hear some music from the members of the so-called Million Dollar Quartet: Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis

And you’ll hear music from performers of that Era that Elvis influenced:

Performers Like:

Buddy Holly

Roy Orbison

The Everly Brothers

Ricky Nelson

plus Cash, Perkins and Mr. Whole Lot of Shakin’ Going On, Jerry Lee Lewis

Even The Beatles were strongly influenced by Elvis. John Lennon was quoted as saying “Before Elvis there was nothing”

Charlie Jacobson is a unique talent with strong vocals and excellent guitar skills as a sought-after session musician. Plus his own original rock and blues songs. Four albums to his credit so far.

He’s far more than a Tribute impersonator. Charlie puts his own interpretive stamp on each song he performs. And we’ll hear his own material as well. Our Tribute approach lets the performer add some of their fan favorite songs as well to their shows.

We’re very proud to present this unique show that Charlie and we at the Fest have put together, presented for the first time in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Mexico, on January 20 & 21, 2023. And we’re holding January 22 open for a possible sell-out in Zihuatanejo on Saturday night January 21, and your demand for another show.

Here’s Charlie showing off his rockabilly, early Elvis-era, chops very well.

Here’s one of our favorite Elvis songs. We are a Rock and Blues-Rock Fest and this is a perfect fit. And can we just say that the similarities in appearance between early Elvis and Charlie are uncanny? Ladies, if you loved the King, you’re gonna love Prince Charlie!

Chris Ghidoni is just the kind of up-and-coming lead guitar-slinging blues-rock vocalist with a big heart we were looking for to pair up with David Gogo headlining our Mexico Fest

The real deal folks. You may not have heard her name but you will remember her when you see her live here in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Mexico, January 21-29, 2023.

When well-known saxman and vocalist Mike Clark of Calgary, had to bow out of coming to Mexico in 2023, we knew we had a big hole to fill…tell you more on November 8…the Chuck Berry Tribute…but he gave us one great thing…a strong recommendation, based on him seeing her live recently, that we bring Chris Ghidoni here to fill the role we mentioned above. And so we are.

We know you’ll love friendly and unassuming Chris, from Brandon, Manitoba Canada with the big guitar chops and strong blues rock voice when we get her live with us in Mexico.

Here’s a couple of her videos and then her bio below. Join Chris and say “Gotta Go” To Mexico!

Chris Ghidoni is a blues rock guitar player and singer from Brandon, Manitoba. She grew up listening to some great bands, including The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top, and found BB King later on her own which led her to discover many other great blues artists. Other influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Albert King, and Colin James.

Chris has been playing blues and rock guitar for years around Western Manitoba and Winnipeg and also in Vancouver. She has opened and shared the stage with Winnipeg’s Big Dave McLean and many other well-known top performers. The Chris Ghidoni Band has played at The River City Blues Festival March, 2019, Women in Blues at the Park Theatre in November 2021, and the Regina Blues Festival in March 2022 and all over western Canada, including the famous Rockin’ The Fields Rock Festival in Minnedosa, Canada.

On September 4th, 2022, Chris released her first original EP called How We Say Goodbye. It’s available to stream or purchase on Bandcamp.com, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music.

Chris said Yes “Gotta Go”.. To Mexico when we asked. Please join her and all our other great performers in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico January 21-29, 2023 when we present The Big Reboot 2023. Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival. Watch for more details about our Lineup and Schedule coming November 8th when we officially launch our 2023 Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week and the Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival. Now in our 6th year since January 2018 when we first began.

David Gogo Says I Want To Go Mexico Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo And Create Some Blues-Rock Explosions At The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Fest January 26-29, 2023…Announcing Our Headliner

David Gogo of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, world-class blues rocker, is coming back to Mexico, to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo to headline our 2023 Fest and help us reboot Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festivals & Events. He was with us in 2018 in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo when we first launched our Blues & Rock Events as part of an all-star band. “Not enough of David performing”, we heard a lot. So now he returns to Headline the 2023 Fest and gets us relaunched. We’re thrilled to tell you this, thrilled to have him back. A Big Heart of the finest variety with great support for the Kids and Animal Causes we help.

David Gogo Montreal Jazz Festival 2016, Bell Canada Stage

David Gogo’s current bio info (Spotify):

David Gogo is a six-time Juno Award Nominee and a three-time recipient of ‘Guitarist of The Year” at the Maple Blues Awards. Gogo’s accreditations further extend to accolades such as ‘Musician of The Year’ at the West Coast Music Awards, ‘Blues Recording of the Year’ at the Western Canadian Music Awards; and The Great Canadian Blues award. Now, the veteran Canadian bluesman David Gogo has released his sixteenth full-length album ‘Silver Cup’. This acoustic affair was recorded at Gogo’s home with longtime friend Steve Marriner, who produced and performed on the album. Silver Cup arose during the COVID pandemic and subsequent shutdown of live music as Gogo found time to reflect on his life, heritage, and career.

The album’s thematic ties to Gogo’s lineage are evident within songs such as Silver Cup’s title track, which took inspiration from an antique cup made in the 1800s and passed down to him by his 95-year-old grandmother. The titular silver cup’s history spans back to Gogo’s Great, Great, Great Uncle, James McKay. McKay, who is now renowned as a Métis Builder of Canada, began as a trapper and guide before eventually becoming involved in the negotiations of Treaties 1 through 5. Further, McKay held several positions with the newly formed Province of Manitoba, including dealings with Louis Riel. As this family heirloom led Gogo to better connect and engage with his storied family history, its symbolic nature acts as the perfect focal point for Silver Cup.

Summer lovin’ then comes winter festin’,,,have a great live music summer friends!

It’s May 1. We’re feeling good. So is “Summer” or “Maggie May” (let’s let Rod Stewart and Ron Wood perform their ode to Maggie of May in the comments below). We’re not sure of our beautiful Latina model’s real name. I like “Summer”. Here she is standing at what looks like the Zihuatanejo Bay in Mexico telling us to go enjoy summer and all it has to offer because Winter Festing in Mexico comes soon after. And to tell you as well, that we’re pitching some clubs in Alberta and soon in Manitoba and elsewhere about a new campaign of ours for our summer travels. A night of great music in “Battle” format to discover at least one great act. The Battle To Go Mexico on January 26-29, 2023 in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, or another one of our event dates in places like Mexico City or Mazatlan. And as we always do, try to raise as much as we can for a very timely and worthy cause…perhaps something like “Peace…One Love…A Night For Ukrainian Refugees Resettling In Canada and the local community. We’ll keep you informed friends. Just wanted to tell you what we’re working on. Have a great May and summer months!
