From Mike’s Bio

“Mike Clark is one of Alberta’s preeminent Saxophone Players”                                      – Holger Petersen, host of CBC Radio’s Saturday Night Blues

“World-class, Alberta-based songwriter, recording artist, and producer Mike Clark is a staple on the music scene in his home province and across Canada, as well as internationally as a horn section member of Tommy Castro’s Revue on the  Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruises.

While Mike is best known for his work as a saxophonist, he’s also an accomplished guitarist and singer who most often leads his own group, the Mike Clark Band. He’s also an in-demand sideman and studio session player. The busy musician owns his own club, Mikey’s on Twelfth in Calgary, a hot spot for music in the city.

Mike has released 5 full-length CDs, Saxman (2003), Clarkology (2004), Forever People (2017), Porch Sessions (2010), and his latest, Devil’s Playground (2020). All feature Mike’s original songs along with a few choice covers. All have received extensive airplay in Canada.

The Mike Clark Band has appeared at Calgary International Blues Festival, Regina and Saskatoon Midwinter  Bluesfest’s, North Country Fair, Pembina Nights, Calgary’s Bluezha Paloozha Blues Circus, and at notable clubs such as Blues on Whyte, Buds on Broadway, the Blues Can, and of course his own popular club, Mikey’s on Twelfth (where they host their famous Saturday jam), among them.

Mike has received 4 nominations for the Maple Blues Horn Player of the Year, and was voted Sax Player of the Year for the Calgary Blues Music Association awards on two occasions. The Mike Clark Band was selected to represent southern Alberta at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and Mike performed with the Tommy Castro &  the Painkillers on the LRBC (2020, 2022).”

We’re Back With Day 3 Announcements. We Tell You More About Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week January 21-29, 2023.

One Of The Changes We Have Made For The Big Reboot In 2023 Is That We Want To Be A Community-Based Festival in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. So That Means We Want To Be In Various Locations Throughout The Two Communities.

We told you about our plans to use the Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre, near the beach, for our Shows on January 21 and January 22. Subject to finalizing discussions with the City of Zihuatanejo. Yesterday we told you about our plans to have a big open-air concert for all at the Zihuatanejo Basketball Court in Centro on Thursday, January 26. It’s a Mexico Talent Showcase from us, along with the Introduction and Short Performances from many of the Fest Performers that are already in Ixtapa-Zihua at that time.

Today we tell you we are also in advanced discussions with the Zihuatanejo Government to have the opening night of the Go Mexico-Go Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival at the Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre in Centro Zihua. Friday, January 27. We have made a commitment to the Zihuatanejo City Government that we will provide seed funding in 2023 for a “School of Rock” for young Mexico students to learn rock, blues and jazz skills, at the Cultural Centre. And more in the future, for every year we are using the Facility.

Then for Saturday night January 28, we go back to Villas Paraiso Hotel and Ricardo’s Restaurant, in Ixtapa, longtime friends and supporters of the Fest. We were here for our “Best Fest Ever”, as everyone said to us, in January 2020. And then Covid, the Corona Virus shut down our momentum. That brings us to now 2023, the Big Reboot!

Two of the last songs performed at our 2020 Fest before the Covid Pandemic shut us down for 2 years. As it did everyone else of course, so just sayin’.

The All Star Band Ends The Night January 18.
Chris and Geoff Dahl (The Blues Brothers Tribute) are Excellent Musicians in their own right. With Evelyn Rubio, Gil Gaidola and Charlie Jacobson. From January 2020 Just Before The Corona Virus Shut All Live Events Down.

And for Sunday afternoon jams and more on January 29, we are planning to take you right to the Ocean. A beachside end of the Fest, starting mid-afternoon, with a couple of short sets and then some can’t miss, always unique, one-of-a-kind, All Performer Jams to close out the 2023 Festival and “Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week. Details on Sunday, January 29 coming very soon. Think Ocean, Waves, and The Sea. But we’ve given you the venue’s conceptual plan.

The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week Goes To The Community in 2023.

7 Days Of News About The Big Reboot Of Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Fest. It’s Go Mexico…Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Time. Day 1

Over the new 7 Days More About The Big Reboot. The Causes, The Venues, The Food, The Drink, The Whole Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week Of Activities. But Always Most Importantly The Musical Entertainment We Will Provide.

The Events Start on January 21 With Something New For Us At This Scale. What’s Better Than One Day Only? How About 2 Days Only? Saturday, January 21, 2023, and Sunday, January 22. Different Shows, Same Great Performers. What’s Better Than One Show? How About 2 Shows? And Some Great Dancing Music To End The Evening.

So folks we’re very pleased to announce that Marc Lopez, of Puerto Vallarta and Act2PV fame, now performing daily in Abu Dhabi, will be with us with his group to present his “Jersey Boys” and “Crooners” shows. When I heard him say “Just tell us how we can help make some great shows and help your fundraising”, I knew we had the right guy coming” And our great friends of the Fest, Big Hearts both, Geoff and Chris Dahl of the Toronto region, Ontario Canada will be here with their Blues Brothers and Soul Brothers Tribute Shows. Just back from Germany where they perform these shows 6 months of the year.

Each night 2 Shows. Each night different music. Vegas quality. Just check the reviews.

Jersey Boys Show is world famous and we’ll show you the great reviews Marc gets for his shows. No exaggeration here. The Crooners show is the music that Michael Buble might present…featuring Bobby Darin, Buble’s own, Others, and in particular features the Chairman of the Board, Ol’ Blue Eyes, a trip down memory with Frank Sinatra music. Geoff and Chris Dahl as The Blues Brothers are non-stop entertainment and comedy from start to finish, we kid you not, and if you haven’t seen their show before, you’ve missed the best of The Blues Brothers and Motown and Soul Music. Great voices. Never disappoint. Highly professional Everybody has told us after one of their shows, “Bring them back, bring them back”.

So friends, 2 great nights of music in Show format to kick off “Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Rocks Week” Saturday, January 21, and Sunday January 22. Two Dates Nights…Friends! Both Different, Both Highly Enjoyable. Vegas comes to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo in January, 2023.

And the Venue…Just tying a few loose ends, but preliminary approval from the City of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and we’re preparing to present both Shows, both Nights at the Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre. Let’s Fill The House…Get In Line Now To Purchase Fest Passes or Show Day Tickets by Leaving A Comment Below. “Yes, We Want” or something like that. Or just “Wow, We Want To Go”.

Please Mark The Dates And Tell Friends. As Always All Net Profits From Our Show And Events, Combined With Your Donations Go To The Worthy Causes We Support.

Enjoy The Video Of Geoff & Chris Dahl in Performance. Now 4 Years Later The Boys Are Returning To Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, in a bigger venue worthy of their Vegas style show and performance. Don’t miss them this time, January 21 and January 22, 2023 when they too Go Mexico, Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo!

We Are…And Always Have Been…A Benefit Fest For Worthy Local & National Causes In Mexico

Updating You About Our Support Of Mexico Causes & People. March 2020 to September 2020. Our Report To The Community And Particularly Our Loyal Fans And Donors About Our Support Of the Community.

We Are Fully Committed To Our Brand Tag Lines: Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival & Events: Always For Great Causes, Always For Fun, Always For Great Live Music In The Warmth Near The Beach.

We Want To Do More, We Know We Can Do More. With Your Support And Assistance.

Why We Continue To Plan For 2021 & 2022 And Continue To Build Our Live International Rock ‘n Blues Music Festival And Associated Events In Mexico So We Can Increase Our Support For Local Causes and Benefit Local Businesses And Their Employees.

Natalia Ruiz Gomez of the Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Shelter of Toluca/Mexico City And Choco, the young part Doberman rescued from the street, who needed extensive Vet. treatments.

Our Current Total Of Contributions To The Community From January 1998 To Today After Funding All Costs Of Staging The Festival Through Cash Flow Is 170,390 pesos.

An Additional Donation of 5, 000 pesos Was Made In Early April To The Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter In Toluca/Mexico City For Special Veterinary Treatment Needed.

From Funds Raised During The 2020 January To March Events As Reported In Our March 2020 Report To The Community, (See Below) We Contributed 12,200 pesos to Amigos de Animales of Barra Potosi, $10,730 pesos to the Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter, and 3,000 pesos to Vicente Contreras, our 14-year-old guitar prodigy, for continued training in guitar from our Realizing Potentials Fund. There is a further pledge to Vicente of another 3,000 pesos following the successful completion of phase 1 of his new training.

Vincente Contreras, 14 years old of Ixtapa-Zihua.

And then Covid-19 struck. Many performer friends of our Festival, suddenly were unable to perform live in public for payment or tips. We made an “executive decision” in late April to reallocate 9, 000 pesos from our Realizing Potentials Fund to help, in a small, but meaningful way still we felt, and provide support three Mexican rock ‘n blues groups who have always given our Cause Fests their time and performance without demands for payment.

Now we are looking forward to January 2021 and 2022. In addition to continuing to support our 2020 Street Animal Rescue organizations and the Realizing Potentials Fund, we also wish to support Local Businesses and their Employees who were devastated by Covid 19 and help kickstart Mexico Tourism Recovery.

You will see some interesting announcements soon on our new plans to support both Local Business and their Employees and Mexico Tourism Recovery overall while continuing support for our ongoing Causes.

As always, we sincerely welcome the Feedback and Suggestions of our Fans And Past Donors.

We’ve Only Just Begun!…Stealing A Song Title There.
