Now The Backstory And More Information Below

Nobody heard the big Explosions on November 15 in the Tequila Rock n Blues Explosions Fest office.  Not an explosion of Rock ‘n Blues music.  An explosion of bad news with potentially very damaging results to the 2024 Festival. We were reeling, not rocking.

Two unrelated headliner performers, our biggest ever, on the same day if you can believe that coincidence, asked for a deferral to our 2025 or 2026 Festivals for medical reasons. We want to make that work.  Two others have subsequently just gone AWOL, gone missing on us, astounding yes, but true, and that means they are not coming for 2025 or 2026 either.

An Aside About How This Could Happen To A Growing Fest With A Loyal Fan Base.  We are an Old School style operation here. Maybe to a fault. Great Music for Worthy Causes By Volunteers. Handshakes And Verbal Agreements As We Look For the Right Combination Of Performers With Big Hearts Who Want Some Downtime and Fun Time In Mexico In Late January.  “A big learning experience” is what Fest Director Bob Rempel called it.  And we love even more the pérformers and fans and partners that Have our Back too.

It took a few days to process all this and decide our strategy. No tequila-mezcal was necessary for a fan-friendly approach that helped the Fest stay on target to keep achieving its “Better and Better 2024-2026 strategy and fundraising goals. Go back to basics, go back to first order priorities was the advice we received.  But, no denying it, a shot or two of tequila or mezcal did not hurt in helping us get back to glass-half-full thinking.

Now here we are today, a few weeks later, feeling better and more confident than ever.

We are pleased to announce today:

-In light of the regrettable cancellations by Performers we have promoted for months to our fans, any ticket holder for 2024 who wishes to defer their ticket to either 2025 or 2026 will be able to do so, by informing us of the same by Written Communication before January 19 midday.  No penalties or fees. This will allow us to put 2024 fans in those seats.

-In the meantime, on January 19 at Madana Restaurant, the Rock and Blues back room we all affectionately call “Small Room, Big Fun” has Sold Out. A second show for Zihuatanejo with all or most of the first weekend Fest performers has been scheduled for Monday, January 22. Same time, same location.

The second weekend January 25, 26, 27 events have grown considerably stronger with performers

-Cliff Stevens of Montreal, Canada with 5 blues rock albums to his credit will join us January 25-27.  In Cliff’s case not only has he got 5 albums of original music, he is also known as the “Canadian Slowhand”.  He is considered one of the foremost Eric Clapton music interpreters worldwide.  More on Cliff:  https://www.thesoundcafe.com/post/a-conversation-with-montreal-bluesman-cliff-stevens

-Brandon Isaak, of North Cowichan, BC, Canada, with three blues albums to his credit and just recently 4 Maple Blues Award Nominations for 2023 will also join us January 25-27.  When you see Brandon you can affectionately say “Hey Bluesman”.  He love the title and his recorded music and live performances show it. In November performed at a “Sold Out”  show at the famous Blue Frog Studios in Vancouver, Canada.  website social

The first weekend will now allow us to feature our first International performer (non-USA-Canada-Mexico) to a much great degree. Bex Marshall of London, England.

She has a great pedigree.  Selected as the voice of “Janis Joplin”  by Big Brother and the Holding Company’s original lead guitarist Sam Andrew who originally brought Janis into Big Brother in San Francisco, from Texas, for their European Tour in 2014, her voice and guitar skills will amaze everyone.  We have scheduled a special Tribute Homage to Tina Turner

Bex with Big Brother original lead guitarist and band leader Sam Andrew, 2014

Recently we announced Charlie Jacobson as our Musical Director ensuring all performers    He will now assume a front-line performance role as a Headliner as well.  Charlie is a fan favourite from previous years, an excellent guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, and has a great rock and blues mix of originals and covers.  We may even get a little Bob Seger tribute from Charlie.  He’s working on something he told us.

We have moved the Beatles’s “1965 at Shea Stadium” and the Highway to Hell AC-DC sets, 30 minutes each at different times in the evening, to the first weekend.  They will be presented by Norbert Aguilar and his Chile Vudu band of Morelia, Mexico whose brief walk-on performance in 2023 told us we had to bring him back.  Now back with his power trio band!

Unofficially we’re calling it Margarita Sunday.  Our Margaritaville.  Beach Rock takes over January 21 at the Beach, (Playa Linda’s Coco Ixtapa Beach Klub, 1:00 pm start all afternoon) will be headlined and opened by a special one time only performance of the very well known Hamilton, Ontario Canada, 3 For The Show.  Top 40 Classic Rock music.  3 Guys Who Love Their Classic Rock.  They also perform in Canada’s biggest CCR/John Fogerty Tribute Band called Mystic Highway Band.  Plus Fest Performers on stage all afternoon until about 6 pm.  Steps away from the Ocean with a big dance floor just for the occasion.

Trebor Villa of Morelia will assume a more prominent front-line role, with his early Bob Dylan set, his Jimi Hendrix and other classic rock music. as will Marianna Gajma, Mexico’s next shining vocal star. Her stage presence and engaging personality will win you over quickly we’re sure.  Both will be with us throughout the entire Festival January 19-27, 2024

Mariana Gajma

Today We Are Very Pleased To Tell You That We’ve Got Acoustic Classic Rock Soft Rock, Yacht Rock, Feel Good Rock covered with the group, “3 For The Show” from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.   Larry Melo, on keyboards, cajon and vocals and Paul Ferreira on bass, join Gil Gaidola on guitar and vocals for a completely different take on Rockin’ Your Night Away.

Easy listening rock that you will sing along to.  Songs we all love, originally by performers like The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Ricky Nelson, Elvis, Del Shannon, Jim Croce, Michael Pagliaro and many more.

Check out Gil Gaidola solo on Youtube with the Bee Gees “Gotta Get A Message To You”.

The three are also part of the very popular Creedence Clearwater Revival group/John Fogerty solo in tribute Band, Mystic Highway, which plays throughout Canada and the USA.

Gil, Larry and Paul join us on January 20 and they’ll be a bonus part of our 20th and 21st shows with walkons, in addition to all our First Weekend Headliners, as we build them up to their full Headline status on our special Big Fun Big Fundraising Dinner & Concert Monday, January 22.

Presenting a 1.5 hour approximately concert style set that features all the great music from Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty, not just the standard few hits that cover bands perform. Plus of course, the very special one-time-only collaborations by Joanna Connor and Chris Duarte, and with other Fest Performers.

The Lineup:

The strongest Top Through Bottom lineup ever from one through nine, baseball coaches like to talk about, and we feel the same way about our 2024 Performers’ Lineup. No weak spots. Until 2025 that is. 🙂 Performers from Canada, USA, Mexico and the U.K.

World-class performers, big stage experience all over the world, with many albums produced.  In fact we have five performers with new albums just in 2023:  Mariana Gajma, Mexico City, Steffie Beltt, Mexico City, Joanna Connor, USA, Chris Duarte, USA and Bex Marshall, UK.

The Big Fun Big Fundraising Day & Night January 22, will be a special day for all those who love Animals and want them to have a good life in their senior years too, just like we want for our own parents, and who want to see kids with talent from the local region learn to play rock and blues and jazz and to perform on stage like the pros so they can be future stars on our stages and any stage, and want a community center that can host future Film Festivals and future big or small Events such as our Fest.

Tickets Buyers will see $50.00 USD or $75.00 USD of their ticket, depending on which option they choose, automatically go into our Multipurpose Building Fund until 2026.  Following that year’s fest we are planning to begin renovations or construction.

The Fund will remain untouched until fundraising is complete and not be a part of the general Fest revenues and spending. Full disclosure on the Fundraising progress through our website and other means of course.

All Ticket Buyers/Donors in 2024 also automatically go to the head of the line in our public Wall of Honor, recognizing all Donors to the Centre For Senior Animals, Kid & Rockin’ Good Times in the yearly order they are received.

We will have a Community Stage in 2024 for the first time.  It will be open to local groups and individual performers, in particular talented up-and-coming youth, perhaps future Fest participants. the Community Stage, which we affectionately call the “Show Us What You Got” Stage or “Acoustic Stage” will be located at the front of Madana Bar and Restaurant in Zihuatanejo and open from 4:00 pm-5:30 pm or 11-12 pm on January 19 and 26.  Also at Ricardo’s Restaurant in Ixtapa from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on January 20 and 27.   Performance Times will be on an advance booking basis. They will receive priority for the stage.  Other walk-ins of course if space is available. No cost to perform or enjoy the Community Stage performances, but the evening events that follow soon after will still require ticket purchases.

Rockin’ and Rollin’ Sports Events:  More details to come by November 15.   For 2024, we will be working on including a special “Dos Equis Tequila Sunrise Beer Mile”,  plus a Foul Shot and 3 Point Shooting Contest to help introduce our 3 on-3 Basketball for 2025.    Registrations for our Run Through The Jungle Event  (Run-Walk-Bike to Playa Linda and back if you do the full course) will begin in mid-November as well.   A Pickleball Exhibition Event and Disc Golf exhibitions will be the precursor to possible inclusion in 2025 and the future.

The 2025 Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Festival:

We are very pleased to tell you that we continue to get early commitments for Festival Performers.  Today we announce that our current plan is to have a boogie woogie piano rock ‘n blues concept show within a Fest with Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne headlining, plus two more boogie woogie piano players.  Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Little Richard and much more similar music.

As well we have early commitments from vocalist and guitarist Steve Marriner of Canada, vocalist Niecie (Blues) of the USA and vocalist and guitarist Brandon Isaak of Canada. Others as well.  Details to come, but we are committed to continuing to implement the “Better and Better” Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Fests plan.  We will continue to work on ways to develop our Generations Unite sub-theme for our second week and expand the range of music genres offered.

Austin-based guitarist, songwriter, and singer Chris Duarte has often been compared with the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. It’s heady stuff for the musician, who plays a rhythmic style of Texas blues-rock that is at times reminiscent of Vaughan’s sound, and at other times reminiscent of Johnny Winter. The truth is, Duarte has his own sound that draws on elements of jazz, blues, and rock & roll. Duarte is a six-time Blues Music Award nominee and has released 15 albums over the course of his career. His latest album, “Ain’t Giving Up,” was released in April 2023 and has been met with critical acclaim. The album features a mix of blues, rock, and soul, and showcases Duarte’s virtuosic  guitar playing and expressive vocals.

Here’s “Nobody But You” official music video from his latest album.  Great rockabilly sound showing the versatility that we will see on stage.  From Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray to Eddie Van Halen to uniquely Chris, it’s all there in one package.

Here’s “Big Legged Woman” one of Chris’s most popular original songs, at the Dallas International Guitar Festival earlier this year.  https://youtu.be/mH_-23DyWlE?si=YWSWPP88Kocqdlm5

Our Other World Renowned Blues and Rock Guitarist and Vocalist Joanna Connor Is Coming To Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo to be with us from opening night January 19 through the 22nd. She also has 15 recorded albums to her credit, the most recent being “Best of Me” from earlier in 2023

She has earlier agreed with us to take time out of her busy regular gig schedule to be a Big Heart Performer leader in helping us launch our “Better and Better” 3-year plan and major new fundraising campaign for a Multi-Purpose Facility for the communities and region that would house a street animal rescue facility with a focus on senior animals, a music training for talented disadvantaged youth plus a performance stage and films theatre. (See below) for artist renditions of the new Facility for Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo and region that we hope to have all necessary funds in place after our 2026 Events.)

An Artist’s Rendition Of A Possible Future Facility With Offices, Film Theatre, And Shelter In Front, Performance Venue In Back.

All our other great talented performers for 2024 are also coming with equal intensity to support our 2024-2026 campaign and help us build Better and Better Fests that can help make more positive contributions to the community.

Big Heart Performers, Great Talent you can only see once or a few times, and Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosions in sunny Mexico near the beaches in cold January everywhere else…a perfect combination we feel.

After a very successful relaunch of the events in 2023, the Paraiso Society organizers decided to commit seriously to “Better and Better Festivals and Events” and create an important Community Legacy.   Our detailed  “Better and Better” Vision and Action Plan for 2024-2026 for the Paraiso Society’s Rockin’ Fun Festivals (available to all for download at (https://tequilabluesrock.com) includes a major new commitment to raising funds to build or renovate a facility for Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo and region, with a target of completion by  2026 end of the year, that will:

1) create a unique Animal Rescue shelter for the entire region with a special focus on senior dogs and cats and providing them treatment, care, and the quality of life they deserve too;

2) create a special music education program, a “School of Rock and Blues” it could be called, with facilities and equipment and training, and special support for disadvantaged youth and;

3) a Performance Stage with all the necessities that could hold events by the Youth Performers or even our own Festival Events.  Meetings rooms and a Film Theatre for our future Film Festival are also in the plans.

The vision and action plan also states that we are committed to building our local and national Partnerships over the next 3 years.   We are pleased to announce today our first 3-year partnership agreement with the new luxury Luana Suites of Playa la Ropa, Zihuatanejo  https://luana.mx  This will involve their generous donation of a prize(s) for fundraising, accommodations for future performers, and additional Festival events at their location such as this year’s Meet and Greet-Open House at their location on Friday afternoon January 19.

Partnerships in transportation, accommodations, food and beverage, and tourism both local and national are of particular interest to us so we can support and offer more options to the growing number of tourists and performers that will attend our Events, said Rempel the chairperson.  “Let’s Talk and help build the region,  help build your business and image and help us build better events that will attract more tourists and locals to you and us”, he said.

Music is truly a major part of the Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo experience for visitors and locals as the Washington Post article said a year or so ago, Bob  Rempel stated.

“Taking place from January 18-28, 2024, and the last two weekends of future years,  the unofficial Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo Rocks Week with both the Tequila Rock and Blues Explosion Festival and the new Generations Unite Festival (Generations United for Peace, Love, Understanding, Kindness, and Mother Earth)  will help further transform Ixtapa-Zihuataenjo into a vibrant hub of cultural immersion, artistic expression, and joyful festivities.”  “With its rich history and diverse community, and now “Magical” tourist status Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo and region serve as an ideal backdrop for this one-of-a-kind event that embraces the spirit of fun in paradise, with flavors of Mexico everywhere and hearts open widely to do more for the community at the same time”, Rempel stated.

Throughout the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in a wide array of related unforgettable experiences and moments we call them.  The Better and Better Vision and Action Plan 2024-2026 also highlights several improvements and changes for 2024 Events.  Here are some highlights of what’s new for 2024-2026!

Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Festival presents classic rock ‘n blues ‘n rockabilly ‘n boogie woogie music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s primarily, the  Music of our Lives we call it, on the last two weekends of January, for visitors to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo Mexico from everywhere.  The first Fest was held in 2018 and has been held every year in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo since except for Covid caused shutdowns in 2021 and 2022.  All events have been fundraising events organized by volunteers.  All events have operated with cash flow only from ticket sales and the help of local partners.  No other subsidies or support said Rempel.  “It’s the true test of events like this…Do they want it, If you build it will they come”  For the community impact of events to date, search “community”  on our website https://tequilabluesrock.com. “We were not satisfied that we have done enough for the community, so with “Better and Better Vision and Plan” you see our commitment to creating a new significant impact on this community in the next 3 years and beyond,” stated Rempel.

The new Generations Unite Festival…The Festival for Peace, Love, Understanding, Kindness and Mother Earth (short name: Generations Unite Fest) will offer a wider selection of music that will appeal to a wide variety of folks, including folk-rock, country rock, country, reggae, jazz-rock, pop and more, but always with a fun atmosphere that visitors and locals love for a night or afternoon out.

The Paraiso Society is a small ad hoc group of volunteers from Canada, the USA, and Mexico who love the still-too-hidden paradise of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo and the region whose mission is to create fun, destination-worthy events with entertainment and entertainers from Mexico, Canada, USA, and the U.K., that are unique to the area, while supporting local causes such as street animal rescue, youth development, and creating a lasting legacy. The Society has also organized other events in Mexico City in the past and will continue to be open to establishing similar events in other tourism-focused communities where the right partnerships are available.

We Told You About The High Level Of Interest In Our First Weekend’s Shows…Our Oversold Problem Creates New Opportunities For Everyone Ready To Rock

Yesterday we released information to the News Media telling everyone about the high level of interest in the great Show package we have been able to put together for Weekend 1. And after a frantic weekend of ticket selling, by various sellers here imagine our delighted “horror” at first of realizing we had OVERSOLD the Zihuatanejo Madana Bar and Restaurant Show for Saturday night January 21. Small Room…Big Fun. People Get It. Folks Don’t Want To Miss The Best Show-The Best Entertainment Value To Come To Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo This Year.

After a great noon hour selling tickets to the Ixtapa on January 20 and having a good friend of our Fests, and “He’s Gone Loco For The Fans” Sr. Ricardo Gomez Jr. tell me about his plans (see below) for Food and Drink for his venue, Villas Paraiso Hotel and Restaurant in Ixtapa, we are here today with Egg on Our Face About The Oversold Situation (too many ticket sellers selling tickets and a big interest and ticket buying rush over the weekend-we’ll fix it with better tech for next year) to tell you about our plans to make everyone as happy as possible.

-We are officially encouraging anyone with a paid ticket in hand to inform us they will volunteer to go Ixtapa on January 20 to free up seats in Zihua, and just like airlines we will compensate you who have tickets with Zihua on the back, with a free Fest Souvenir Shirt from 2021, or 2020 or a free Fest Souvenir Tequila Shot Glass 2023 with tequila in it to start, or a Free Fest Souvenir Winter Rock and Blues Paradise Coffee Mug 2023. We will offer the same compensation to anyone with Zihua tickets in hand who volunteers to sit in the front section of Madana’s Restaurant and Bar that night during the show where we will create another dance floor and bring in a speaker from the Show sound just behind you. Plus we’ll make sure that at least The I’m A Soulman Brothers will work their way into your area in the front too and entertain you. They are wanderers always with their wireless microphones. And you get to move into the main Room as soon as seats open up.

-And our genial Sr. Gone Loco, Ricard Gomez Jr at Villas Paraiso is offering a great incentive for everyone to Go Ixtapa! Two 200 peso specials. A great all-you-can-eat Buffet Fest Style food offering pasta, chicken wings, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, and similar food for 200 pesos per person. And it gets better folks! An all-inclusive Drinks package for the evening for 200 pesos per person too. Beer, Wine, Tequila. Wow! Best prices ever we think. Upgrades are available too I’m sure. 2 More Great Reasons To Go Ixtapa. Our Harmonica Master from Mexico City is also an excellent blues vocalist and guitar player…Isidoro Negrete Reynoso is dedicated to keeping blues music alive in Mexico

We’ve told you in the past few days about the great vocal talent coming to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo for January 27 & 28 for the Blues & Rock Festival. We’ve already featured Chris Ghidoni, Joseph Leal, and Torke Ross.

Today we’re very pleased to feature, Isidoro Negrete Reynoso, a man whose lifetime of performances has been dedicated to presenting the Blues. Through vocals, harmonica, and guitar. His Mexico City-based band is called The Blues Machine…La Maquina del Blues. Through his weekly internet radio program presenting the lives and music of great blues performers, past and present.

And very much a Big Heart. His wife Susanna and him operate a small animal rescue shelter and take in many homeless street dogs and street cats in Mexico City and give them the best in medical treatment and food.

Here’s a great 1-minute video clip of Isidoro on lead vocals. From a 2020 Concert in Mexico City. Follow the link. By the way that’s Torke Ross, who is coming here as well, on guitar to the left, sitting in at that performance for the band’s regular lead guitar player.

And here’s Isidoro with a great-sounding harmonica solo from a Mexico City concert in 2018 that we caught live on video.
