Friends like Oralia Band possibly. She mentioned them to us yesterday as the talking about how to best put this together continues. What do you think folks? Wow, this video was very impressive. And we’re not that easily impressed.
We’ll keep talking to Kristel and let you know soon what the final lineup of Friends might look like. But count on it to be rockin’ and lots of fun. An international lineup. And music and performers and show concepts you can’t just go and hear any day you want. Always! That’s who we are!

The Music And The Fun Make The Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Events Great…The Causes Give Us…And You, Added Motivation To Do This, And Go All In
We’ve been out of the public spotlight in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo for two years. Blame Covid. Nothing else. Ended 2020 on a high note and all momentum we had as a local community-based, business organization with a purpose beyond profits was lost. So it’s the big reboot for 2023 and new people who weren’t with us before, have started asking who we are and why we are different.
Our purpose is to help build the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and region community we live in and started our business enterprise in. Festivals and high-level music and other events are well acknowledged excellent ways of bringing in new tourism dollars. Bringing back previous visitors to the area as well. International and national visitors.
And we wanted to support causes dear to our hearts and others in the community. The model we chose for our core Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Events business was a “social enterprise”. A model dear to the heart of the founder Bob Rempel,
After a long business career in western Canada, he discovered the power of the social enterprise model when he served as Executive Director of a non-profit organization called SSCOPE for six years back in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Before coming to Mexico as a tourist. And ending up Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Now with permanent resident status in Mexico.
The social enterprise entity operates as a business, using all normal effective business principles, except all profits are turned back into the organization or donated to the community and causes, instead of going to shareholders or the owner(s). So that was the model adopted when we first launched Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion events in January 2018 with a great blues and rock event. And then more concerts and festivals in 2019 and 2020.
Then Covid came along halting all live events in 2021 & 2022, except one live event in Mexico City, on December 11, 2021, called “The Spirit of Christmas Rock ‘n Blues Explosion” supporting animal rescue work in Mexico City. Excellent videos on our Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Youtube page.
We’ve written before about our community involvement and our mission to support the community we live and operate in before.
Here are some links to previous posts on our website:
Community 1 (Our main report to the Community…being updated at the present time to add more information for the periond from 2020 to today)
Now we’re here in September 2022 planning for the big reboot in January 2023 and I want to tell you more about the Causes we want to support and help as much as possible in 2023.
In 2023 We Continue To Support Street Animal Rescue in Mexico, now with our own small shelter too, and our Animales Angeles Fund MX. This Year Have Taken On The Challenge Of Beginning To Support As Much As Possible What We Call Street Kids Rescue-Helping Kids In Need, One By One, With Food, Shelter, Education, School Clothing, and Such. To Help Them Realize Their Full Potential. The “Rescue” theme works well for our mission we believe.
We Have Requested That The City of Zihuatanejo Give Us the Authorization To Use The Zihuatanejo Cultural Centre For Shows on January 21, 22 and 27. In Return If Granted, We Have Also Committed To Raise Funds For A New “School Of Rock” Based Out Of Zihuatanejo’s Cultural Centre, and Working In The Region With Good Teachers And Equipment To Create Talented Future Rockers. So That Means Clinics At Every Fest And Event Too With Some Of Our World Class Talent.
Plus, Where We See An Opportunity If Possible We Want To Help Ukrainian War Refugees In Mexico. We’re Warred Out, To Turn A Phrase. Let’s Help If We Can Is Our Thinking.
These causes are dear to our hearts of us as organizers and our small dedicated volunteer group. Plus we believe these are very worthy causes that our fans and performers can easily get behind. Mexicans, Americans, and Canadians come together to enjoy the music of our lives in a fun atmosphere at destination-worthy events, while trying to support the local community and worthy causes. See you in January, or earllier at some of our lead-up events in the community!
David Gogo of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, world-class blues rocker, is coming back to Mexico, to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo to headline our 2023 Fest and help us reboot Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festivals & Events. He was with us in 2018 in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo when we first launched our Blues & Rock Events as part of an all-star band. “Not enough of David performing”, we heard a lot. So now he returns to Headline the 2023 Fest and gets us relaunched. We’re thrilled to tell you this, thrilled to have him back. A Big Heart of the finest variety with great support for the Kids and Animal Causes we help.
David Gogo is a six-time Juno Award Nominee and a three-time recipient of ‘Guitarist of The Year” at the Maple Blues Awards. Gogo’s accreditations further extend to accolades such as ‘Musician of The Year’ at the West Coast Music Awards, ‘Blues Recording of the Year’ at the Western Canadian Music Awards; and The Great Canadian Blues award. Now, the veteran Canadian bluesman David Gogo has released his sixteenth full-length album ‘Silver Cup’. This acoustic affair was recorded at Gogo’s home with longtime friend Steve Marriner, who produced and performed on the album. Silver Cup arose during the COVID pandemic and subsequent shutdown of live music as Gogo found time to reflect on his life, heritage, and career.
The album’s thematic ties to Gogo’s lineage are evident within songs such as Silver Cup’s title track, which took inspiration from an antique cup made in the 1800s and passed down to him by his 95-year-old grandmother. The titular silver cup’s history spans back to Gogo’s Great, Great, Great Uncle, James McKay. McKay, who is now renowned as a Métis Builder of Canada, began as a trapper and guide before eventually becoming involved in the negotiations of Treaties 1 through 5. Further, McKay held several positions with the newly formed Province of Manitoba, including dealings with Louis Riel. As this family heirloom led Gogo to better connect and engage with his storied family history, its symbolic nature acts as the perfect focal point for Silver Cup.
Great in jams and collaborations which we love and so do our fans, and quiet and friendly and down-to-earth as a person, we couldn’t have asked for a better Headliner to step up and say “Yes, I want to Go Mexico-Go Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo And Create Some Great Blues & Rock Explosions” Are you ready to join David? Hey it’s cold everywhere else at that time, isn’t it? January 26-29, 2023. Fun in the Sun, The Music of Our Lives For Great Local Causes…Street Animals, Street Kids, More. Details of the David Gogo Fans Excursion Package to be announced very soon.

We are currently updating this post, originally published on March 31, 2020. (And then Covid changed everything…as we all know) It will reflect how we have greatly expanded our events and locations so we can do more and have a greater impact. It will reflect fundraising since that time and Causes and individuals we have since supported as well. To date since we began on January 8, 2018, we, with the support of our great fans have been able to raise close to 200,000 pesos and put that back into the community towards worthy causes in Mexico.
But we felt that’s just not enough so we expanded greatly our locations within Mexico for the 2021-2022 Winter Season. Our cause for 2021 & the 2022 Winter Season is Street Animal Rescue Mexico. Supporting Neutering, Medical Treatment, and Special Feeding and Housing Programs by Existing Groups and Organizations through grants from our Animal Angels Fund. We’ve just finished our first Fest, The Spirit of Christmas Rock ‘n Blues Explosions Mexico City on December 11, 2021. Many great performers came out to support our Cause and helped us get the Winter Season off to a-rockin’ start. You can check out many of their performance videos on our site. Click to Videos here.
Watch For A Finalized Updated Post By late December 2022. First Published March 31, 2020.
Events & Activities Since January 2020:
Most Recently In December 2021, we held our Spirit of Christmas Navidad Mexico City Animal Rescue Fundraising 1 Day Festival. It was a small event, held during Covid restrictions still. Through the help of our Fest fans and our own contributions we were able to donate 3,500 to Susanna and Isidoro Negrete Reynoso for an operation that one of their Rescue Dogs needed
Opened the Helen M. Rempel Memorial Shelter in rural Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Started with four animals, it has the capacity for 8-10. Monthly operating costs of about 5,000 pesos. A bequest from Helen M. Rempel of Steinbach, Manitoba Canada helped us initiate this project.

We are pleased to report, that with the support of our music and fun-loving fans, we were able to donate to two animal rescue organizations, Amigos de Animales of Barra Potosi, MX and Animales Angeles MX of Mexico City/Toluca, our 2020 Causes, and create two funds, the Realizing Potentials Fund for young people, typically early to mid-teens, and the Birthday/Navidad Smiles Fund for younger children.
A total of $40,300 pesos was raised at the January Tequila Blues & Rock Explosion Festival III and the February and March Blues & Rock Weekend Shows for the community.
Fans directly donated $9,500 pesos at the events, with the remainder coming from the Events & Organizers.
This brings the total donated to the Ixtapa-Zihua community to $165,390 pesos since January 2018, when Tequila Blues & Rock Explosion Events & Fests held its first event in Ixtapa-Zihua.
We are also pleased to report that a donation of $12,200 pesos in total will be made to Amigos de Animales and Stasya Briggs, the founder and project operator, with the first portion of that donation made on March 26. The remainder to be made in late April. The Animales Angels Project, founded by Natalia Ruiz Gomez, has received $10,730 pesos to date, to help with their ongoing shelter and rescue expenses in the Toluca/Mexico City region.
Additionally, the allocation of $6,000 pesos, with possible additional funding, has been made from the Realizing Potentials Fund to 14-year-old local guitar prodigy, Vicente Contreras for specific approved guitar instruction and equipment that can help take his talent to the next level of accomplishment. The funds will be paid out to cover approved training expenses, once the training and development plan details are in place.
The remaining funds, approximately 10,750 pesos, will be available in reserve in the event that our 2020 Causes require additional support or additional needs and requests from the Realizing Potentials project or Birthday/Navidad Smiles are received. Funds may also be allocated to our Mexico’s Got Talent Showcase project for the showcase and development of youth amateur talent from this part of Mexico, currently planned for late 2020 in Ixtapa.
We sincerely thank all our Fans, Performers, Volunteers and Supporters. Without them, this is not possible.
First and foremost we are about working with high-quality performers with big hearts presenting great Live Music and Entertainment events for everyone’s enjoyment. However, our Community involvement and support for worthy Causes is a very important part of the purpose of all the events we present.

We Are Fully Committed To Our Brand Tag Lines: Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival & Events: Always For Great Causes, Always For Fun, Always For Great Live Music In The Warmth Near The Beach.
We Want To Do More, We Know We Can Do More. With Your Support And Assistance.
Why We Continue To Plan For 2021 & 2022 And Continue To Build Our Live International Rock ‘n Blues Music Festival And Associated Events In Mexico So We Can Increase Our Support For Local Causes and Benefit Local Businesses And Their Employees.
Our Current Total Of Contributions To The Community From January 1998 To Today After Funding All Costs Of Staging The Festival Through Cash Flow Is 170,390 pesos.
An Additional Donation of 5, 000 pesos Was Made In Early April To The Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter In Toluca/Mexico City For Special Veterinary Treatment Needed.
From Funds Raised During The 2020 January To March Events As Reported In Our March 2020 Report To The Community, (See Below) We Contributed 12,200 pesos to Amigos de Animales of Barra Potosi, $10,730 pesos to the Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter, and 3,000 pesos to Vicente Contreras, our 14-year-old guitar prodigy, for continued training in guitar from our Realizing Potentials Fund. There is a further pledge to Vicente of another 3,000 pesos following the successful completion of phase 1 of his new training.
And then Covid-19 struck. Many performer friends of our Festival, suddenly were unable to perform live in public for payment or tips. We made an “executive decision” in late April to reallocate 9, 000 pesos from our Realizing Potentials Fund to help, in a small, but meaningful way still we felt, and provide support three Mexican rock ‘n blues groups who have always given our Cause Fests their time and performance without demands for payment.
Now we are looking forward to January 2021 and 2022. In addition to continuing to support our 2020 Street Animal Rescue organizations and the Realizing Potentials Fund, we also wish to support Local Businesses and their Employees who were devastated by Covid 19 and help kickstart Mexico Tourism Recovery.
You will see some interesting announcements soon on our new plans to support both Local Business and their Employees and Mexico Tourism Recovery overall while continuing support for our ongoing Causes.
As always, we sincerely welcome the Feedback and Suggestions of our Fans And Past Donors.
We’ve Only Just Begun!…Stealing A Song Title There.
