Updating You About Our Support Of Mexico Causes & People. March 2020 to September 2020. Our Report To The Community And Particularly Our Loyal Fans And Donors About Our Support Of the Community.
We Are Fully Committed To Our Brand Tag Lines: Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Festival & Events: Always For Great Causes, Always For Fun, Always For Great Live Music In The Warmth Near The Beach.
We Want To Do More, We Know We Can Do More. With Your Support And Assistance.
Why We Continue To Plan For 2021 & 2022 And Continue To Build Our Live International Rock ‘n Blues Music Festival And Associated Events In Mexico So We Can Increase Our Support For Local Causes and Benefit Local Businesses And Their Employees.
Natalia Ruiz Gomez of the Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Shelter of Toluca/Mexico City And Choco, the young part Doberman rescued from the street, who needed extensive Vet. treatments.
Our Current Total Of Contributions To The Community From January 1998 To Today After Funding All Costs Of Staging The Festival Through Cash Flow Is 170,390 pesos.
An Additional Donation of 5, 000 pesos Was Made In Early April To The Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter In Toluca/Mexico City For Special Veterinary Treatment Needed.
From Funds Raised During The 2020 January To March Events As Reported In Our March 2020 Report To The Community, (See Below) We Contributed 12,200 pesos to Amigos de Animales of Barra Potosi, $10,730 pesos to the Claudio Bigotes Memorial Animal Rescue Shelter, and 3,000 pesos to Vicente Contreras, our 14-year-old guitar prodigy, for continued training in guitar from our Realizing Potentials Fund. There is a further pledge to Vicente of another 3,000 pesos following the successful completion of phase 1 of his new training.
Vincente Contreras, 14 years old of Ixtapa-Zihua.
And then Covid-19 struck. Many performer friends of our Festival, suddenly were unable to perform live in public for payment or tips. We made an “executive decision” in late April to reallocate 9, 000 pesos from our Realizing Potentials Fund to help, in a small, but meaningful way still we felt, and provide support three Mexican rock ‘n blues groups who have always given our Cause Fests their time and performance without demands for payment.
Now we are looking forward to January 2021 and 2022. In addition to continuing to support our 2020 Street Animal Rescue organizations and the Realizing Potentials Fund, we also wish to support Local Businesses and their Employees who were devastated by Covid 19 and help kickstart Mexico Tourism Recovery.
You will see some interesting announcements soon on our new plans to support both Local Business and their Employees and Mexico Tourism Recovery overall while continuing support for our ongoing Causes.
As always, we sincerely welcome the Feedback and Suggestions of our Fans And Past Donors.
We’ve Only Just Begun!…Stealing A Song Title There.

Blues and Blues-Rock Explosion Weekend #3 Will Be Held In Mexico on January 10-12, 2020. Advance Tickets At Best Possible Value Ever On Sale Now-Price Increase June 1, 2019
Possible Second Weekend of Live Blues & Blues-Rock Music For January 17-19
We’re very pleased to announce the plans for the 3rd Tequila Blues Explosion Fest Event for the weekend of January 10-12, 2020 in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, stated festival organizer Bob Rempel.
Based on anticipated successful fundraising, new sponsorships and advance ticket sales over the next six months, we have an excellent roster of performers we are ready to present, he said. All have already agreed to perform. Many more are possible. Well known names, and newcomers, who are rising stars.
The great live music continues with appearances by Fest favorites Geoff and Chris Dahl, who will present their high energy truly amazing, The Blues Brothers show and a new one for 2020, their The ZZ Top show,
Tangerine from Mexico City, with the great blues-rock voice of Lorena Cabrera Bernal fronting, plus a keyboardist added to the four-piece band now, will feature tributes to Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin their specialties, but also Queen, AC-DC, Deep Purple, and others
Charlie Jacobson, highly versatile blues-rock and rockabilly frontman-vocalist, guitarist and showman will come from Canada. He impressed when he was last here
Isidoro Negrete Reynoso, one of Mexico’s finest blues-rock harmonica players, a legend in his country in fact, from Mexico City, will add that great harp feel to bring out the best in the blues songs
New for 2020 we have guitarist and vocalist Joe Brett from Ontario, Canada who is bringing his special Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) tribute show to Ixtapa.
Also joining the all star ensemble to make sure the special collaborations that Tequila Blues is becoming known for, truly amaze, is rock, blues and soul music Saxophonist Max Octava Maravilla of Mexico City, Mexico.
Returning to Ixtapa as well is vocalist and harmonica player Robert George now of Nelson, BC, but with his roots in the San Francisco music scene, so he is bringing his pal from the days of youth, multi instrumentalist Mike Billo with him. Mike has performed with and backed up blues greats such as John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed, and many others from San Francisco and all over the world. He plays the harmonica, bass and slide guitars, banjo, ukulele and dobro.
Rempel said Tequila Blues continues in discussions with a lengthy list of performers who have all expressed a serious interest in appearing at the Tequila Blues Fest and supporting our causes, and of course enjoying the great Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo weather and beaches in January as well. As do all our new and old visitors from away attending Tequila Blues Explosion events. “Come for the music stay for the beaches” is the long time slogan Tequila Blues slogan.
People such as blues and jazz vocalist and saxophonist Evelyn Rubio from Houston, originally from Mexico City, Kal David and Lauri Bono from Palm Springs, USA, Brent Parkin, Winnipeg, Canada, Zeppia a 3 piece power rock trio of two sisters and a brother from Mexico City, that features music from Black Sabbath, Grand Funk and much more, Bourbon Blues Ensemble from Leon, MX Fonzeca-Caja de Pandora Project, Monterey, MX, Andrew Parkhouse from Canada, Jimmy D. Lane, from Vancouver, B.C and originally Detroit, Austin Cane from Cleveland, USA and Rafael Tranquilino from Seattle, USA and originally from Mexico City.
Many are ideal candidates for our additional second weekend of great music if we attract the ticket sales and sponsorship we require for our first weekend, according to Rempel.
“We’ve tried to tell everyone connected and interested in growth for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo these past three years, Tequila Blues Explosion Fest originator, Bob Rempel said, that these kind of events are tourism magnets that many tourism focused communities in Mexico are hoping to develop or acquire to give them an edge to attract visitors. The kind of visitors with higher levels of spending that will really benefit a community in the highly competitive and somewhat stagnant tourism environment that currently exists in Mexico.”
Support from all sectors of the community, governments, and the fans, our ticket buying public will help create an ongoing music festival with a difference, for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo that will continue to grow every year. We hope that the next 6 months will show us everyone wants this for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and not let it go elsewhere, Rempel added.
Tequila Blues events are also fundraisers for the community. In the first two years over 120,000 pesos has been donated to a children’s orphanage near Zihuatanejo. In 2020 Tequila Blues Events, and our venue partners, with the support of the fans, will raise funds for children and schools in low income areas near Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, primarily assisting with technology shortfalls, and Animal Rescue work both in Ixtapa-Zihua and other parts of Mexico.
What’s new for 2020?
-New music venue partners who have agreed to help support fundraising and performer’s expenses: Smoke Shack Ixtapa plus adjacent businesses, and Villas Paraiso Hotel & Bar & Grill Ixtapa
-A Zihuatanejo event venue is being sought, and will be announced in the near future
-All Tequila Blues events will be Membership Only events. Membership will be a nominal amount and included in ticket prices in 2020. It signifies the way we wish to treat and deal with our fans in 2020 and in the future. Have them return every year as valued Tequila Blues members. And yes, “membership will have its privileges”.
-Musicians Geoff and Chris Dahl from Canada and Enrique Torres and Lorena Cabrera Bernal from Mexico (Tangerine) have agreed to serve both as music directors and technical advisors, assisting festival directors, to ensure we have the highest standard of performance and sound quality this year and in future years, at all venues, for the fans..
-All events will be sold by Advance Purchase only. Tickets must be in hand before the event. This will make ease of entry much more efficient for everyone and supports our membership only approach. Fans of live music Tequila Blues style performed in warm January weather in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo close to the near perfect beaches here, will have this marked in red on their calendar many months in advance we know, organizers said.
-Group purchases and group travel to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo for either the January 10-12 weekend, the January 17-19 weekend, or both, will be fully supported by Tequila Blues fest, the organizers announced. Put a group of 10 or more together from Canada, USA or Mexico and we will bend over backward to make your trip to Tequila Blues Explosion Fest a memorable one with great value. We are truly all about our slogan: “Come for the Music-Stay For The Beach”
-A free show by all the visiting musicians and performers for the evening of Thursday January 9, for all local residents of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and region, at a Central location, is under consideration. The support of a major sponsor, private or government, to help defray the costs of staging the event, will be essential however.
-Fest organizers will make their best efforts to incorporate additional events they organize into the Tequila Blues Explosion Fest as soon as possible, with growth every year. Events such as beach volleyball or ultimate frisbee (disc sports) tournaments, motorcycle and car club rallies, art and crafts show and sale, pet shows, and a pets in motion fun run/walk/bike event along the ciclopista with the family pet or your rescue dog or cat.
